Mirpur is the largest city in Azad Kashmir. A large majority of Mirpuris now live abroad in England. The city continues to retain strong links with the UK that�s why it is also known as "Little Britain". It total area is 1,010 km2 (390 sq mi) and its population is approximately 370,000 according to 1998 census. Mirpur was founded in 1052 AH (around 1642 AD) by a Gakhar chief Miran Shah Ghazi.

There are many stores, plazas, shopping malls & markets in Mirpur, selling everything from hand made pottery to international brands. Mirpur have many places of interest for public and tourists, some of them are Baghsar Lake, Basharat Shaheed Monument, Jari Kas, Khari Sharif, Mangla Dam, Mangla Fort & Museum, Ragu Nath Temple, Ramkot Fort, and Shivala Temple etc.
